The journey to England went smoothly, and that's important for this first leg - even if it's just to see how well the camper runs. I got sort of lost just before Rotterdam (wrong turning) and again just outside York across the water (another wrong turning...it seems that roadsigns have a tendency to dissappear just when you're sure you're on the right road). I enjoyed the crossing, the private cabin, the enormous coffees onboard and an exquisite cool beer in the piano-lounge. But I didn't sleep half as well as I'd expected to - head too full of thoughts. It's only a 3 hour drive from Hull to Yorkshire - but it's on the left and over windy country roads much of the way - so quite tiring
So I'm presently in North Yorkshire with my sister and her family. Home from home you could say, because this doesn't really count as the spirit of adventure... or does it? I went out on a bike-ride this morning - first time riding over the hills - so different from riding in Holland, But I wasn't on a one-fixed-gear backward-peddle-brake city-bike like the one I have at home - this was a 10-gear mountainbike... much more suitable for these roads. Tomorrow I'm going jogging in the fells, so you could say this is more of a physical adventure experience... at least for the moment.
Anyway, with the "first step" taken (actually and finally leaving Amsterdam) I've got to get my bearings again, to make the most productive use of the time and opportunities here. My sister's partner Ian has agreed to help me make some song-videos to put up on my YouTube channel. We've discussed some possible locations and we'll go visit a few later this evening - can't really be more productive than this.
I took some pics on the ferry - uploaded to facebook, and here's a couple to illustrate the start of my adventure . . .
The week has just begun .
